Internet Slams Woman’s ‘Abhorrent’ Message For Vet Clinic: ‘I Hate People’

A veterinary technician went viral after sharing the “abhorrent” message her office received from an “insane” client.

Posting under the username u/jrow6411, the client shared a picture of the complaint in Reddit‘s “F**k You Karen” forum, writing: “Karen [visited] our veterinary office.” The post has garnered over 19,000 upvotes and hundreds of comments from Redditors who slammed the client’s “insensitivity.”

“Good morning. I took our dog, Cooper, to your office last Friday. The office itself was clean and [the] staff was prompt and friendly,” the woman wrote.

While the beginning of the message was rather innocent, the rest wasn’t as kind.

“Your assistant had on a proper pronoun mask (them/they) which I felt was very unprofessional. I work in a dental office and we have to put politics aside,” she said.

“Your koi pond was also full of weeds, as was the front of your office, [so], I did a little weeding. Please hire someone to take care of your outside and help your staff be sensitive on the inside,” she concluded.

Redditors found it ironic that the woman called out the staff’s “insensitivity” and slammed her for taking issue with the unnamed assistant’s preferred pronouns.

“Your staff needs to be more sensitive to my needs to not be sensitive to theirs,” joked u/TurboFool.

“Please be more sensitive to my insensitivity,” quipped u/AlternativeCredit.

“The fact that this woman wrote this and felt justified and correct is wild,” wrote u/breyore. “Pronouns are not political.”

“Human Rights = Politics. I hate people,” said u/ginnymarie6.

“You have to love people complaining about pronouns and claiming they want to keep politics out of something at the same time. Like how the f**k do you think your complaint isn’t political? You don’t mind politics—you mind politics that aren’t yours,” added u/sparty219.

“This is abhorrent,” commented u/Lagspresso, regarding the letter overall.

As it turns out, the client isn’t the only American who feels “uncomfortable” with gender-neutral pronouns. According to The Pew Research Centera whopping 47 percent of Americans feel “somewhat” or “very uncomfortable” using nonbinary pronouns.

That being said, Medical News Today says it’s important for people to use each other’s pronouns “correctly,” as doing so may lower experiences of depression and raise self-esteem.

“Properly using an individual’s correct pronoun is an easy way to show respect,” the National Institutes of Health explained. “Whether intentional or not, using the wrong pronouns can be hurtful, angering, and even distracting. Some might find it equivalent to being told they do not matter or deserve respect. Invalidating someone’s identity puts a strain on how a person moves about in society and how that individual interacts with others.”

In addition to being upset about the client’s insensitive remarks related to gender identity, many commenters also pointed out that pulling weeds from the clinic’s koi pond was inappropriate.

“Wow, I’d be pissed as someone who purposely keeps weeds for the environment. She sounds lovely,” said u/pugyoulongtime.

In response, the vet tech explained that the “weeds” weren’t even weeds—they were ornamental plants.

“People are insane,” they said.
